Lighting the Way Ceremony
November 2, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Lighting the Way is an annual event that honors those who have passed away in the last year.
The evening begins with Mass in the chapel of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist. We remember each departed person by name in the prayers of the faithful. Directly after Mass the congregation processes outside with each family carrying a candle to signify the loved one who has died. The staff of Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care leads a final prayer. Then during a time of reflection “the lighting of the way” occurs, a display of white lights in the dark of the night.
This event reminds us that light always overcome darkness, joy overcomes grief, and love overcomes loss.
The lights remain lit for the remainder of the month of November and appear again in preparation for Christmas.
